Revolutionary Apple iPad is cannibalizing PC sales?

Digital Daily reported recently that the revolutionary Apple iPad which debuted in April this year, is likely to have a negative impact on the entire PC industry.
UBS analyst Maynard Um stated the following:
“Sales of traditional notebooks appear to be feeling pressure from the iPad, causing a scramble by vendors to launch iPad-like tablets,” Um wrote in a note to clients. “We believe that a majority of this impact is occurring on the lower end of PC sales as the iPad is priced close enough to this range that it becomes attractive to consumers looking to make purchases within this segment.
We are not sold that the iPad is purely cannibalizing PC sales, as the functionality of the iPad can not yet fully match the functionality of notebook PC’s. However, consumers who purchase iPads may be more willing to delay purchases and upgrades of existing PC’s.”

Apple to ramp up iPad production to 3 mil a month

According to Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, Apple is currently producing 2 million iPads a month and wants to increase this to 3 million. Apple’s recent increase to 2 million iPads per month was likely the reason for quicker shipping times of the device. However, it seems Apple is anticipating even higher demand in the near future.

Looking for iPad? Here’s a 7-inch iPad wannabe.

Some of you would have heard about Apple’s upcoming iPad 2, a 7-inch iPad rumored to be released end of this year or early next. Can’t wait that long for it? No prob, how about a knockoff from China, available right now, for a couple of $900 Chinese yuan. That’s USD$132 only, penny-pincher.
Let’s take a closer look at this 7-inch iPad wannabe. It comes with Android 2.1 onboard, and powered by Telechips TCC8900 720Mhz processor. On the surface, a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen (800 x 480), 2GB of storage, 256MB of RAM, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, built-in mic, accelerometer (not bad for a knockoff!), micro SD card slot (support up to 32GB), two mini USB ports, and a built-in 1600mAh battery.
Oh, and those printed words on the box that states support for 3G, HDMI & 1080p? Those are bullshit.

“Our tablet will be better than the iPad.” – LG

LG Electronics’ VP of Marketing, Chang Ma told WSJ that the LG tablet will launch Q4 of this year under its Optimus line.
This is what he has to say:
The first LG tablet, which will run on Google Inc.’s Android software, will set itself apart from Apple Inc.’s iPad by focusing on the ability to create content, rather than simply display it, Mr. Ma said in an interview. Mr. Ma said that the iPad is a great device, but he doesn’t do much work on it. “Our tablet will be better than the iPad.”
We shall see.

Apple finally allow magazine subscriptions on iPad

Last month, Time Inc. was set to launch a subscription version of its Sports Illustrated iPad app, where consumers would download the magazines via Apple’s iTunes, but would pay Time Inc. directly. But Apple rejected the app at the last minute, forcing the Time Warner (TWX) unit to sell single copies, using iTunes as a middleman.
All these changes with this week’s new People iPad app, which for the first time, is free to People subscribers. Time Inc.’s magazines – Time, Sports Illustrated, Fortune – is expected to adopt the new feature within the coming month.

The iPad snatch thief now wants his victim DEAD

Brandon Darnell Smith, 21, the man who stole an iPad from a customer at an Apple Store in Denver is now behind bars.
This unusual news grabbed the headlines because the victim – Bill Jordan – had the flesh on his pinky finger ripped off as he had the iPad carrier bag wrapped around his hand moments before it was snatched away from him.
According to a probable cause statement, a letter was sent by Smith in which he attempted to arrange Jordan’s murder. The letter was intercepted by authorities at the Denver Justice Center.
In the letter, Smith identifies Jordan and his home address, telling the person the following:
“YOU GET THIS DONE! AND I GO ON ANYTHING I’ll rob a bank if you want me too. Just do this for your boy and I got you for sure. You know how we do it.”
Smith points out that Jordan’s address is included and says, “That’s the address, so handle it A.S.A.P.”
He concludes by saying, “I really need this otherwise it’s a wrap!! If you do this, case is dropped.”

[Battle Royal] ‘An army of 32′ versus the ‘Apple iPad’.

Technologizer has summarized 32 current and upcoming tablets that are geared up for a battle royal with the Apple iPad.
Starting later this year, the iPad will be confronted by an army of other touchscreen machines, from potentially worthy opponents to shameless wannabees. Call ‘em iPadversaries, and read on for my first stab at accounting for (most of) them.
I cheerfully admit that I’ve defined the term “iPadversary” loosely. Some of these gizmos are very much meant to compete head-to-head with Apple’s tablet, including a bevy of Windows 7 “slate PCs.” Others won’t do so at all–such as the OLPC XO 3.0 and “$35 Indian tablet”–but I found them intriguing for one reason or another. And a few (such as RIM’s BlackPad) are unconfirmed rumors which may or may not pan out.
