Apple failed to convince potential buyers of iPad

February 09th, 2010 | Category: iPadNEWS

With the recent unveiling of the Apple iPad on Jan 27th, Apple failed to convince new buyers and lost potential buyers of the iPad if a recent survey by Retrevo is to be believed.

Retrevo’s latest study asked consumers whether or not they had heard about the tablet before the tablet was introduced and again after the announcement.

The word definitely got out as the number of respondents saying they had heard about the tablet rose from 48% shortly before the announcement to over 80% after the media frenzy on January 27th. Unfortunately for Apple, the number if respondents saying they had heard about the tablet but were not interested in buying one, doubled from 25% before the announcement to over 50% following the announcement.

Apple to further drop iPad pricing if there’s no demand?

February 09th, 2010 | Category: iPadNEWS

According to the WSJ, via a note from Credit Suisse analyst Bill Shope who met recently with Apple executives, the following was reported:

Apple wants the iPad to be the best device for a few key use cases. For instance, the company believes it could eventually be seen as superior to both handheld and notebook devices for browsing the Internet, using the App Store, and consuming mobile media (video, photos, and e-books). Nevertheless, in other areas, notebooks, the iPhone, or an iPod may be more appropriate. This clear segmentation of capabilities suggests that cannibalization may be less of a concern than most currently believe.

While initial reports have looked favorably on the $499 price tag Shope writes, “it remains to be seen how much traction the iPad gets initially, management noted that it will remain nimble (pricing could change if the company is not attracting as many customers as anticipated).”

What happened to Appulo.us? Hello, Apptrackr!

February 09th, 2010 | Category: CydiaAPPS,iPhoneNEWS

Appulo.us is no more. Yup, you heard it right. If you were to check out the site now, you will – in fact – see a french sounding website with nary an iPhone app/game in sight. So, what happened to Appulo.us?

Glad you asked.

Well, as part of a major overhaul, Appulous has been replaced by the all new Apptrackr. According to Hackulo.us, this is what the developer behind Appulous/Apptrackr has to say:

If you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last few weeks, earlier this month I announced apptrackr, a replacement for Appulous. We took the time to make apptrackr very nice looking, and I’ve done my best to optimize it and increase its performance to handle a large, large audience of users.

First and foremost, I’d like to thank all of our beta testers (Advancements) for not only their contributions but for making so many great suggestions and finding quite a few bugs for us to fix. Without you, apptrackr would not be here today!

Apptrackr is advantageous to Appulous for several reasons. In theory, the website should be faster than Appulous (considering we’re on three times the hardware that Appulous is) and the website’s caching functionality is advanced (it uses ideas from Kyek’s RECache algorithm). The website is much better looking, running a theme that we’ve refined for the best presentation and user experience. We also support most iTunes stores, instead of just the US store, for app submission.

You can use apptrackr by visiting http://apptrackr.org/. Make sure that you’re going to apptrackr.org and not a scam website!

So, what are you waiting for? Head on over to Apptrackr right now and reap the ‘benefits’ of a jailbroken iPhone!

iPhone 4G to be longer in size, photos leaked.

February 09th, 2010 | Category: MacRUMORS,iPhoneNEWS

iPhone repair site iResQ claims to have obtained parts for the 4th Gen iPhone. Its unclear if these are authentic parts; however, you can find the photos and their observations below.

1) The LCD appears to be factory glued to the digitizer which is more similar to the first generation iPhones than the iPhone 3G and 3GS. The digitizer can be separated from the LCD on the 3G and 3GS models, which should be interesting to all, but for the repair folks like us – this means that the 4G screen repair price will be higher since both parts will have to be replaced at once.

2) The iPhone 4G front panel seems to be about 1/4″ longer than its predecessors.

3) There is an interesting reflective, mirror-like surface directly above the speaker. This is likely a spot for the proximity sensor. If that’s what is is, it’s in a different location than previous models.
